PAC have sent (attached) request for President of the Republic of South Africa and Chief-Whip of the majority party to honour Poqo martyrs by devoting a moment of silent to them. These hanged freedom fighters have recently been exhumed from Pretoria and will be handed over to their beloved families this weekend to be given a deserving and dignified family.

The PAC will call on the parliament of SA to observe a moment of silence during the 2017 SONA. The moment of silence is to honour 14 freedom fighters who were members of POQO, the PAC military wing, later renamed APLA.
The 14 POQO cadres, 5 of them from the same family, died at the hands of the apartheid regime when they were hanged in 1963 as part of the 200 POQO cadres who were hanged at the Pretoria Central Prison, later renamed Kgosi Mampuru II.

The 14 POQO cadres will be reburied at their ancestral home in the Eastern Cape on the 11th February 2017 as heroes of the struggle against apartheid.

The PAC believes that a moment of silence, accompanied by the reading of their names individually, is the least that the parliament of SA must do to acknowledge each of these men for paying the ultimate price of death so that in 2017 we enjoy and cherish the freedom we have.

The PAC believes that SONA is a befitting occasion to honour these unsung heroes of our struggle against white supremacy and colonialism.

Kind regards
PAC’s Department of Info & Publicity
