It is with great sadness to announce the passing of former Pan Africanist Congress President Clearence Mlamli Makwetu (Picture attached). He passed on at 13h30 April 1 in Queenstown Private Hospital.
Cde Clerarence Makwetu’s brief political life
Was born in 1928 on the 6th of December. He did his matric in Lovedale near Alice in 1946. He was always in and out of the prisons. He was leading the PAC underground. Was also a regional chairperson of Transkei. In 1989, he led Pan Africanist Movement which served as a front for the banned PAC until he was elected the President of the PAC which he led to the “new dispensation”.
Makwetu have always been vocal about the land repossession when he realised that African people have been robbed their dignity which was their land.
Cde Makwetu led PAC to the first democratic elections in 1994. He have played a pivotal role in the armed struggle of the country and continent. He fought fearlessly coordinating the PAC in and outside the country hence we trusted him to lead us after Zephania Mothopeng.
Sithi hamba kakuhle Zikhali, jojo, butsolo bentonga, zungwane uze usibulisele ko Sobukwe,oo Mothopeng. Tell them that you left us still the land is owned by the settlers. The PAC upon meeting with the family will notify everyone about the funeral arrangements.
